As the fourth session of CERA-UK 10th Anniversary webinar series, this webinar focuses on how to find an academic career at universities in China and the UK. We have invited two guest speakers- a newly graduated PhD student who are now employed at a Chinese university and an experienced associate professor who have been employed by several UK universities- to share their experiences and suggestion on job-seeking. Speakers:
Professor Yuwei Xu. Assistant Professor in Education and Teacher Development at the University of Nottingham, supervisor for MA and PGR students. Previously, Yuwei has held academic positions at University College London (where he remains an honorary lecturer) and the University of Portsmouth. Professor Xu is a sociologist of (early) childhood, education, and gender. He serves as the editor for several key journals: Co-Editor-in-Chief for Children & Society, Co-Editor-in-Chief for Pedagogy, Culture and Society, and Editor for Teachers and Teaching: Theory and Practice.
Dr Song Xue: Lecturer at the School of Education, Zhejiang Normal University, China. Prior to joining ZJNU, he obtained his doctoral degree in science education from the University of Dundee in April 2023. In this webinar, he will share his experiences of finding a job during his PhD, the conditions for staying in academia in China, and his personal insights gained during the job search process.
